So I've met with my organiztion every week and they have helped me get the names of the students that came up here for college day and I wanted to contact them to see how the felt about St Cloud. The only problem is that there isnt any contact information, all I have is their names. I guess I'll just haveing to keep pushing the group to get me more contact info. In the mean time im trying to come up with a survey for the students to take that would really give me an insight to what they think of st cloud, if they would ever come here, what didnt they like, what could we do better, did the race issue have anything to do with their choice, if we had more scholarship available would that change things. I need more questions and I need to find their contact information. Does anyone have any thoughts on what other questions I could ask?
Hi Nadiea,
ReplyDeleteIn regard to collecting contact information, it is possible that there may be a campus policy which does not allow students to collect contact information from visitors; you might have to check on that with the leader of CAAS or some other folks in CSOLD.
In regard to the survey construction, what I would do for now is list all potential questions that you can think of asking and not worry if they are "right" or "wrong". You will also have to decide how best to administer the survey.
At this point, I believe this is where you and Ashlee have separate projects. Am I correct in my understanding when I say that Ashlee is working on figuring out how to increase participation in CAAS events, and that you are working on a project which addresses the comfort level that African American students feel on campus?
In any case, one of the things that Ashlee will be determining for her project is whether or not the way CAAS events are advertised is successful or not in reaching students. Based on this information, you would find out whether or not to administer the survey online, on paper, or over the phone.
I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
R. Wexelbaum
The comfort level that african americans face on campus would be an indicator for me and give me better insight to if the campus needs more diversity and if more diversity is wanted. But I am more focussing on how SCSU can implement a new recruiting program that would lead to better retention. I am having a very difficult time with this and I am wondering if I bit off more than I can chew. Im trying to get some statistical things together and trying to meet with staff that deal with recruiting for SCSU but they all seem to busy and I cant catch them at the right time. I am also looking for a history of the student racial demographics to see if SCSU has had an increase in minority students over the past few years, has there been a decreas, is it steady. Im also trying to find out if there is already a recruiting program implemented here, who is involved in it, is it succussful, is it just a few people, is it a bunch of staff working together. Is SCSU even interested in recruiting more minority students. These are the questions on my mind and that I am trying to answer. This process is very slow
